The fantastic art of Kurt J. Haas
Die phantastische Malerei des Kurt J. Haas
This unique, rich-illustrated overview documents 36 years of artwork by the fantastic painter Kurt J. Haas, born 1935 in Zurich, Switzerland. At the age of 33, stimulated by the art of Mark Tobey and Jackson Pollock, he began drawing and painting and positioned himself in a course of time as outsider and fantastic painter in the international art scene. Successful exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad cover the interest of many art-interested from various sections of fine art. The coloured and often large sized work reminds strongly of tribal and indiogene artwork. His handling with 2-dimensional representations recall a symbolic and figurative language of earlytemporal cultures. On 96 colour-printed pages, developed in close co-operation with the artist, this picturebook presents many illustrations of his designs and paintings and gives a comprehensive view of the fantastic synthesis of the art made by Kurt J. Haas. Short texts, partly in German, English and French by Roger Cardinal, Christiane Rekade, Martin Steiner, and others portray and describe the fantastic world of Kurt J. Haas.
